CHALLENGES AND OPPORTUNITIES IN OCULAR DUG DELIVERY: EMPHASIS ON NOVEL FORMULATION STRATEGIES
Abstract
Dr. Sai Prachetan Balguri
Ocular drug delivery is extremely challenging and fascinating field to the pharmaceutical scientists owing to unique and exquisite barriers encountered in the ocular milieu. Targeted drug delivery to specific sites in the eye needs the integration of multi-disciplinary approaches encompassing basic and applied sciences, especially for posterior ocular tissues namely retina and vitreous body. To date, advancements in technological platforms efficiency progressed into development of novel devices and methodologies for the delivery of small/large molecule therapeutics into the ocular posterior segment. This Special Issue is intended to provide and discuss the broad scope of recent formulation efforts, hurdles/challenges, future scope/directions and issues in advancing ocular drugs for their translation towards commercialization.
